Planning committee suggests road is awash with car washes

IT was a car wash too far for Rye Council’s planning committee this week.

Planners were considering an application to convert a disused hard standing area and storage shed at Winchelsea Road into a car wash.

The application has been submitted by Hastings based Mr D Ali.

Cllr Shaun Rogers said: “You have to ask, does Winchelsea Road really need four car washes in the space of 500 yards?”

Cllr Bernardine Fiddimore said: “It is one too many and would be overdevelopment of the site.

“The access would be appalling, there is a lot of traffic in that area already with a gym and a guesthouse. This is an unsuitable site.”

The committee refused the application on the grounds of unsuitable access. Rother District Council’s planning committee will have the final say.
