Plans for £7.5m eye centre at Shoreham hospital revealed

Plans for a multi-million pound opthalmology department at Southlands Hospital in Shoreham have been revealed.

Eye care specialists from Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been working with patients, architects and developers to create new facilities at the hospital.

The project – which is expected to cost £7.5m – will be called Western Sussex Eye Care, Southlands, and is designed to enable more patients to receive tests, results and diagnosis in one visit.

It is expected to open in 2017 with opthalmology outpatients services moving from Worthing Hospital at the same time.

Consultant ophthalmologist, Masoud Teimory, said: “We’ve worked hard to reach this stage, but the plans are still in progress and we welcome people’s views and input into developing Western Sussex Eye Care, Southlands.

“This is a very exciting time for us and our patients, as our vision for improved and larger facilities at Southlands is fast becoming a reality.

“I hope to talk with lots of interested people at the exhibitions and explain how our new purpose-designed accommodation will help us deliver excellent care in a more patient-centred way.”

The hospital trust is inviting the public to meet the new team and give their thoughts on the project.

The first exhibition takes place on Monday, November 2, from 4pm to 7pm at Worthing Hospital Education Centre (WHEC), Worthing Hospital, Lyndhurst Road, Worthing, BN11 2DH.

A second exhibition takes place again for three hours from 4.30pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday, November 4, in the OcTherapy Room, Southlands Hospital, Upper Shoreham Road, Shoreham.
