Plans to offer mortgage help unveiled

COUNCILS across East Sussex have joined forces to help home owners at risk of repossession.

Up to 6,000 households across the county could be supported by the new Mortgage Rescue Scheme which is being backed by Rother, Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes and Wealden councils.

The scheme intends to give the best possible assistance to those affected by the economic downturn.

It offers two products; a shared equity scheme with a housing association paying off a proportion of the mortgage or the home being sold off to a housing association which rents it back under an assured shorthold tenancy.

However it will not be available to everyone and applicants will have to meet the appropriate criteria.
