And today is St. Swithun’s Day. If it rains, it will do so for the next 40 days. What was that about a hose-pipe ban?

Let’s hope things cheer up a bit for next weekend’s Open Gardens in Playden. The weeds are really enjoying the wet weather and growing on enormously.

The gardens are going to be open on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June from 1 to 5 pm. The parking, plants, produce and preserves will all be at the start point which is by the church gate. But there are gardens in Fairmeadow and Point Hill, as well as New England Lane and each will be signed. Therefore you could start in any of those places if you prefer. Each garden will have tickets for sale at £5 per person. This is a map showing the location of all the gardens, teas and Pimms. Just put on your wishing hat for sunshine and put away your umbrella.

The event is advertised as Midsummer Gardens. The summer solstice is on 21st June, which is the longest day and shortest night. So after that, is it downhill all the way to Christmas?!

The weekday services are Morning Prayer at 9.30 am and Evening Prayer at 3.30 pm on Tuesday.

The 11am service for the second Sunday after Trinity will be Parish Communion led by the Vicar.
