Playground is opened by teenagers
A new public playground for older children has been opened in Ferring's Village Green.
The opening follows a number of consultations between Ferring Parish Council and a number of teenagers who approached the council in 2013 with a proposal to put new facilities in the village.
The teenagers were invited to a youth conference to put forward ideas for better play equipment for older children, and work was completed on the new ground two weeks ago.
The playground was officially opened last week by one of the teenagers involved, Sophie Palmer, and includes a climbing facility, a zip-wire and a large swing.
Councillor Terence Chapman, Arun District Council’s cabinet member for Environmental Services said: “This is a wonderful new play area and it’s fantastic that the proposal for the new facilities came from young people in the village. This proves what can be achieved if you have a good idea and some vision, and we’re delighted the project has come to fruition.”
Money for the project was raised by Worthing Rotary Club and the rest of the necessary funding found by Arun District Council and Ferring Parish Council.
There was also a small amount of funding left which will be allocated to the existing facility for younger children and will consist of part-resurfacing of the soft surface by the swings and the installation of a new roundabout.
Ferring Parish Council has said it would like to thank all bodies that were involved in the project.
