The donation comes from the Police Property Act Fund, made up of monies received by the police from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.

The club is taking 10 boys to Barcelona to play in a junior European tournament from 16-18 June.

The money will go towards kit, equipment and additional training in order to prepare them for what is expected to be a tough competition.

Part of the tournament will be played at the world famous Nou Camp football stadium and will be a great opportunity for the squad to demonstrate their football skills that they have worked on at the Worthing club for several years.

Paul Woodley, a coach at the club said: “On behalf of the boys I’d just like to say ‘Thank you very much’. I’m very grateful to Sussex Police for this contribution.”

Sergeant Tony Sharpe said: “I’m really pleased that the money can help these youngsters with such an amazing experience. Who knows, they could all be playing at the Nou Camp permanently in a few years - or maybe even the Amex.”
