Police door knocking in Worthing, in connection with Northiam shooting

Sussex Police are knocking on doors in Broomfield Avenue, Worthing, in connection with the shooting of a young girl by a man believed to be her father.

The incident took place at around 4pm yesterday in Northiam, East Sussex.

Sussex police said the man shot the girl, seven, in the head, and then turned the weapon on himself.

She has been taken to King’s College Hospital for treatment where she is in a life-threatening condition.

A body was found by armed officers in a parked car nearby.

Chief Superintendent Neil Honnor of Sussex Police said: “We are treating this as a tragic domestic incident and do not believe that anyone else is involved.

“At this stage we are not in a position to confirm the relationships of all those involved but we can say that the girl and the man knew each other. “The man does not live at the address. We are treating this as an isolated incident.”
