Police release CCTV images of Worthing rape suspect
Police have released CCTV images of a man who is suspected of raping a woman in Worthing.
Detectives want to identify and trace the man seen in two photos, who is suspected of raping a 69-year-old woman in Worthing town centre at around 1.50am on Monday, May 9.
Police say the man in the photos, which were taken nearby just before the attack, is described as white, in his twenties, 5ft 10in or taller, slim, and wearing stonewash jeans, a dark top, and dark deck-type shoes with white piping.
Detective Chief Inspector Tanya Jones of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: “We believe the man had seen the woman in the nearby Montague Centre and engaged her in conversation before taking her to the parking area at the rear of Barclays Bank in Liverpool Road where she was attacked.
“Anyone who was in the town centre area in the early hours of Monday morning and saw what happened, or recognises this man is asked to contact Sussex Police urgently via [email protected] or by calling 101, quoting Operation Skyline.
“You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-org.uk).
“This is an isolated and unusual event for Worthing and is not part of any pattern of offending. Local people should just continue to take their usual steps to look after themselves and keep safe when out in Worthing or anywhere else.”
