Political candidates to be grilled

THERE has been much controversy surrounding the televised debates between the main political party leaders in the run-up to the general election on May 7.

But when it comes to the prospective parliamentary candidates vying for the Worthing West seat meeting each other face to face there have been no such issues.

Sir Peter Bottomley, Conservative, Jim Deen, Labour, Hazel Thorpe, Liberal Democrats, Tim Cross, UKIP and David Aherne, Green Party – are set to take part in a ‘Question Time’ style evening at St Paul’s Arts Centre, in Chapel Road, Worthing.

The evening, organised by Skeptics in the Pub Worthing, will begin at 8pm on Monday, April 13. It will be split into two halves, the first beginning with each candidate speaking for six minutes to tell the audience why they should vote for them.

There will then be a 20- minute refreshment break during which time the public questions will be selected and the questioners summoned to the front. The second half will consist of questions from the audience and answers from the panel, before the event finishes at 10.30pm.

John Richards, from the Skeptics, will be the chairman on the evening.

Entry to the event costs £2 and tickets can be purchased from the venue or by visiting bookitbee.com/2555/question-time
