Angmering campaigners urge residents to have their say on development

PLANS for the future of the district “contain discrepancies”, says a campaign group.

Members of Save Angmering Village (SAV) have called for as many people as possible to go along to Arun District Council’s information events, relating to the draft local plan.

The plan, which would act as a guide for all development across Arun over the next 14 years, is being put together by the council, and is currently in the public consultation stage.

Sue Ware, of the group, said: “SAV will be commenting on the draft local plan via Arun’s website in the next few weeks, and urge people to do the same by the cut-off date of September 10.

“There are a number of discrepancies which SAV wish to raise, not least that, with regard to new housing, the draft local plan is at odds with Angmering’s draft neighbourhood plan.

“While SAV realise that Angmering will have to have some new housing over the next 14 years, we do not agree that Angmering needs almost 500 new homes and an employment site at Water Lane.”

The 362-page draft plan document sums up the advantages of building in and around the village.

It states: “With improvements to the A280, proposed improvements to the A259 and the possible securing of additional primary school places, Angmering is considered a sustainable place for additional housing and employment growth.”

The drop-in sessions will be held at Angmering Village Hall, from 11am to 3pm on Saturda, August 4, and Rustington Parish Church Hall on Thursday, August 8, from 3-7pm.
