Broadwater Green emergency cycle lane almost completed in Worthing

The final stage of the first stretch of coronavirus cycle lanes in Worthing is set to be completed in Broadwater Green.

The A24 Broadwater Road lane has proven divisive, to say the least, since it was installed last month. Taking up one lane in each direction along the major road into town, traffic has backed up, traders have feared damage to the economy and campaigners have bemoaned the environmental effects. The Government scheme is hoped to encourage more people to cycle, as they did during the warm summer months of lockdown. This final stretch in Broadwater Green is now being completed. In early September, a spokesman for West Sussex County Council said a short stretch of the northbound carriageway was proving difficult to adjust, as a few vehicles were parked there ‘long-term’. Having been removed, work can now finish on that stage. A second tranche of cycle lanes are planned further north along the A24, from the Grove Lodge roundabout into Findon.
