Council welcomes delay in Warnham flight path changes

Gatwick Airport ran a six month trial of a departure route called ‘ADNID’ to gather data as part of wider work looking at how to use airspace more effectively and efficiently, as well as how to make the most of Gatwick’s single runway capacity.

The trial, which ended on August 8 2014, resulted in significant feedback from the community.

The council opposed the changes to the flight paths, believing that the changes would have harmful implications for those communities both under and close to the new routes.

It put the case for residents about changes to airspace management and redirected all the complaints that were received about noise form aircraft overflying Warnham and the surrounding area to the noise monitoring team at Gatwick Airport.

Cabinet member for living and working communities, Claire Vickers, said: “This is really good news for the communities who have recently been concerned about flight paths.

“However, whilst we have been given a reprieve, we will continue to work with our residents to ensure that their views continue to be represented in the future.”

Campaigners against flight path changes have meanwhile hailed the airport’s decision as a victory.
