Developers to face Angmering grilling

ANGMERING villagers and their parish council will have the chance to quiz developers about controversial housing plans in the village next week.

Barratt/David Wilson Homes will be giving a presentation at Monday’s (March 12) parish council meeting, including details of feedback from the public at a consultation event held in the village last month, outlining the developers’ proposals for 301 homes on land north of Worthing Rugby Club, Roundstone Lane, and including the Manor Nursery garden centre.

Parish council chairman Pat Turner told the Gazette she hoped the developers would be coming back to the council with changes to their initial plans, which were unpopular with many villagers.

Barratt/David Wilson Homes will have a one-hour slot at the start of the parish council meeting, from 7.30pm in the village hall, Station Road. Once they have made their presentation, parish councillors will have the opportunity to question them and, if time permits, villagers will also be allowed to quiz the developers.

Sue Ware, of the campaign group Save Angmering, said: “We hope to get a lot of support at that meeting, to show that villagers care and are very concerned about the plans.”

More than 80 villagers attended a surgery held by Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert on Friday (March 2), at which housing development in Angmering dominated the discussions.

He told the meeting that he was concerned about the development of rural areas.

And there will be yet more opportunities for people to air their views on large-scale housing in the village, with Barratt/David Wilson Homes holding a follow-up meeting in the village hall on Saturday, March 24, from 10am-5pm, and Save Angmering staging a public meeting at Angmering Community Centre the following day, from 3-5:30pm.
