Lancing traders unite to fight

TRADERS have become so frustrated with what they have described as the “chronic decline” of Lancing they have decided to fight for change.

A group of businesses in Lancing say the village is being “overlooked” by Adur District Council in favour of improving Shoreham.

In a desperate attempt to rectify the situation, a petition has been launched, urging residents to back a bid to regenerate the village centre.

Frances Smith, of Ambex, in Shopsdam Road, said: “We are fed up with the lack of support and money from Adur District Council for the regeneration of Lancing. It is a neglected area.”

Traders argue there has been a lack of investment in Lancing’s infrastructure and state with an excess of 20 empty shops in Lancing there is not enough to encourage residents to shop locally.

However, the leader of Adur Council, Noel Parkin, has hit back at the criticism, stating the council is already in discussion with Lancing Parish Council on plans for the village’s regeneration.

District councillor Brian Boggis said things did need to improve in the village but questioned why the traders did not club together, like those in Shoreham and Worthing, to fund Christmas decorations.
