YOUTHS look set to have more of a say on the running of their village after a teenager was chosen to sit on the parish council.
For the first time, Lancing Parish Council has got a teenager among its ranks after 19-year-old James Butcher became a councillor for Churchill ward last week.
James, of Boundstone Lane, Sompting, said he was “pleasantly surprised” to be co-opted, adding: “Politics is my passion and I am incredibly proud to be able to serve my community. I see the parish council as an opportunity for Lancing to make it distinct from anywhere else. My real hope is to bring young people into the decision-making process.”
James studies politics at Sussex University, is an activist for the Conservative party and was a Lancing representative on the West Sussex Youth Cabinet.
