Moat withdraws from Adur, Worthing, Arun and Horsham Homebuy schemes

A SOCIAL landlord responsible for affordable homes in Adur, Worthing, Arun and the Horsham district announced today (Wednesday, September 21) it will no longer be acting as a support provider.

Moat is currently the registered social landlord for the Homebuy schemes across all four areas.

This morning, however, Moat announced it will now be working on new housing projects. Currently, the company is responsible for covering loans for people buying on the open market, some new-build shared ownership schemes and schemes for key workers.

Tony Morgan, director of sheltered and support services, said: “Moat will do everything possible to minimise disruption to residents and staff.

“All residents will continue to receive a high-quality support service and staff will be transferred to the new providers under TUPE regulations.

“We understand that this may be unsettling for residents and staff, but wholeheartedly believe our strength lies in meeting local targets by providing much-needed housing for older and vulnerable people.”

A Moat spokeswoman said the decision was made after the removal of ring-fence funding, in 2009, and significant reductions in Supporting People funding, following October’s spending review.

She said Moat was committed to developing a new supported housing scheme every year for the next three years.

It will also work with residents and staff to find local landlords.
