One data breach at Chichester District Council in three years

The case came to light as the only reported data breach at the authority between April 2011 and April 2014.
This is according to a report on such breaches by local authorities released by Big Brother Watch, an organisation that aims to challenge policies threatening privacy, freedom, and civil liberties,

Hide AdA spokesperson for Chichester District Council said: “Chichester District Council was concerned that the case occurred.
“It was fully investigated and dealt with according to our internal disciplinary procedures.”
Emma Carr, a director at Big Brother Watch, said: “Far more could be done to prevent and deter data breaches from occurring. Better training, reporting procedures and harsher penalties available for the most serious of data breaches, including criminal records and custodial sentences are all required.
“Until we see these policies implemented, the public will simply not be able to trust local councils with their data.”
