Pothole strategy ‘working’ as repairs drop by two-thirds in West Sussex

West Sussex County Council fixed 1,475 potholes across the county in January 2015 compared to 4,117 in January 2014, a drop of 64 per cent in the number of defects that needed fixing.

The council believes this is evidence that its two-year Better Roads Programme, introduced in April 2014 to target rural and residential roads in most need of repair, is paying dividends.

Pieter Montyn, WSCC’s cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “The fall in the number of potholes that had to be fixed this January is an indicator our Better Roads strategy is working.

“Of course, we are at mercy of the weather, but so far progress has been encouraging.

“We rely on the public to be vigilant and wherever they see a pothole, they should report it to us so we can investigate.”

Anyone can report a pothole online by visiting the county council’s website and click the ‘Love West Sussex’ logo on the bottom left hand side of the homepage.

You can report it by smartphone by downloading the free ‘Love West Sussex’ app either via the app stores or from [email protected]

The ‘Love West Sussex’ App is only to be used for reporting potholes and defects.

Since the Better Roads Programme started in April 2014, 15,000 potholes and 1.8 million square miles of road have been replaced.
