Two Sussex probabtion staff have been presented with national awards by HRH The Princess Royal, patron of the Butler Trust.
Joanne Wood, senior probation officer with Kent Surrey & Sussex Community Rehabilitation Company, has been presented with a prestigious national Award.
Joanne, who covers Sussex as part of a team, was a probation officer when the Awards were being judged; she has since been promoted to Senior Probation Officer.
She has been granted an Award, one of only 10 given each year, for outstanding dedication and all-round excellence in her work with persistent prolific offenders.
Joanne’s colleague, David Morris, a support services assistant, who is based in the KSS CRC Worthing office, received a Commendation, one of 20 given each year.
He was nominated by his colleagues for doing his job extraordinarily well, for going beyond what’s asked of him and for transforming what might to some be a simple reception desk job into a key part of the rehabilitation process.
Joanne and David received their awards at the Butler Trust Annual Award ceremony, which was held at St James’s Palace in London on March 10.
After the ceremony, the Princess spoke to all of the Award winners and commendees.
Joanne said: “I’m just doing my job, so it’s a real honour to be recognised on this grand scale. I feel incredibly privileged to receive the award from The Princess Royal at St James’s Palace.”
David added: “It was such a great day - to see how proud my mum was, to receive such an honourable award and meet Princess Anne was an incredible experience.”
