Puppy love for Crufts contestant

A LANCING schoolgirl's handling skills have been recognised at national dog show Crufts.

Roxanne King, 13, a pupil at Boundstone Community College, finished second in the special puppy category and third in the junior category with her grandmother's dog, Hettie.

"It was good. I didn't think I'd actually get there," said Roxanne.

Hettie, full name Clearwater Memphis Belle, is a 13-month-old Dandie Dinmont terrier.

Roxanne's grandmother, Noreen Hewitt, of Valley Road, Sompting, said: "I think it's a good experience for children and it does keep them off the streets.

"It gives them something to do and it gives them an idea of training dogs."

Mrs Hewitt said she was proud of her pet and her grand-daughter for their success in the show.

"It was really pleasing, especially as it was the first time for them both," she said.
