Put your best foot forward to help Guild Care cause

GUILD CARE has opened registration for a charity walk along Worthing seafront – part of its 80th anniversary appeal and celebrations.

Entrants to the ‘Walk to Remember’ will take part in either a 5k or 10k run, walk, or jog, on the morning of Saturday, October 5.

The fund-raising efforts are part of the charity’s ‘Building a Home to Remember’ appeal, in which £500,000 needs to be raised to build a new state-of-the-art care home on the Northbrook site in Durrington.

The campaign will be officially launched in the Herald & Gazette in September.

Fund-raising manager Rachael Duke said: “Now is the time to dust off the walking shoes and encourage family and friends to sign up too.

“The sponsorship money will make a huge difference to both the residents who will make this their home and the many people who will visit for respite care or to use the community centre.”

As part of the launch of the walk, Guild Care staff have teamed up with Worthing Raiders RFC. Team vice-captain Jamie Redmayne said “It has been a fantastic year of firsts for the Worthing Raiders 1st XV this season and so we were delighted to help Guild Care launch their first ever ‘Walk to Remember’.

“We hope it is a huge success and raises plenty of money to support local people with dementia.”

Guild Care has been supporting local people with dementia for over ten years through their community centres and care homes.

Its popular ‘Time Out for Carers’ service offers twice weekly respite sessions, a wide range of activities and minibus transport to ensure carers receive a well earned break.

The walk will start at Worthing Pavilion, and will extend to either George V Avenue, or Sea Lane, and back again, depending on length of walk entered.
