Race night for students’ Uganda trip

The event will be held at Culver Road, Lancing, at 7pm tomorrow.

For seven months, the students from the Sir Robert Woodard Academy have worked towards fundraising targets of £1,500 each, with events including a quiz night and sponsored walks.

Student Beth Loversidge, 15, said: “It will be fantastic if as many people as possible can come. It will be a great night and will give us an opportunity to tell you more about our trip.”

With staff and students from the Littlehampton Academy, they will plan and deliver their own lessons, activities and arts and crafts for the Ugandan children, two thirds of whom do not go to school and will be experiencing education for the first time.

Beth, said: “Next time I see someone fundraising with a bucket, I am stopping to give them some money and listen to what they have to say.

“It’s shocking how many people walk past or screw their noses up. I never realised how much a small amount of someone’s time and money is so gratefully appreciated when you are raising money for amazing charities or causes.

“We are all very excited to get this rare and wonderful opportunity and are really looking forward to hopefully making a difference to the children’s lives.

“We have all had fantastic support with our fundraising so far from family, friends and the public and will all need to continue to raise our target.”
