Recyclers wrap up fourth place in contest

CHARITY fundraisers have scooped fourth place in a nationwide recycling contest, winning a £25 charity donation.

A total of 5,873 used biscuit wrappers were collected by the NSPCC North Lancing District collectors during the three-month McVitie’s Wrappers to Riches contest.

Overall, 117,934 wrappers were saved from landfill by collectors nationwide.

Lancing also finished fourth in TerraCycle’s Biscuit Wrapper Round-Up contest in 2013.

In this year’s contest fundraisers collected almost double the amount of used biscuit wrappers in half the time.

In total the NSPCC North Lancing District collectors have raised £1,490 through TerraCycle.

Sue Wellfare, who runs the collections in Lancing, said: “Myself, the team at the NSPCC North Lancing District and of course the wonderful people of Lancing are delighted that we finished fourth in the Wrappers to Riches Collection Contest.

“It is wonderful that so many local people in Lancing are passionate about both supporting TeraCycle’s recycling schemes and raising vital revenue which helps the NSPCC prevent cruelty to children.”

People can still bring packaging to collection points at the Co-op on Queens Parade in North Road, The Garden Centre in Findon, the Children and Family Centre at 42 North Road and the Children and Family Centre at 42 Upper Boundstone Lane.
