Red Arrowstop bill forRye Fun Day

It will be the first time the world famous RAF aerobatic team has given a display over the town.

They arrive next Saturday (June 11) hot from the Queen’s birthday celebration fly-past.

There will be a full day of events with a 1940’s theme. Attractions include a fun fair, a display of military vehicles and their costumed crews, helicopter rides, a strong-man competition and Lindy Hop dancers.

There will also be pipe and drum bands and a wide variety of stalls.

The event is free and there will be a collection for the Help for Heroes charity.

The fun starts at 10am and culminates with the Red Arrows display at 4pm.

The fun fair wil be on the Salts and the strong-man competition on the Town Salts.

Vehicles will line up at Strand Quay before toruing the town.

There will be extra parking available at Rye Rugby Club in New Road.

The Red Arrows display will take place mainly on the west side of the town with the best viewing points being Strand Quay, and Gibbets Marsh.

The event is being organised by Roger Crouch who organised the successful Christmas Festival in Rye and the record breaking Pirate Day event at Hastings.

Roger said: “This will hopefully attract a lot of people to the town on the day but I also want it to be an event that local people can really enjoy.

“There are many other things that I am adding, such as a Captain Manwering look-a-like, and Rye College are organising past and present students to perform period music on the day in the town.

“It should be a wonderful atmosphere.”

The event is being backed by Rother District Council, Rye Chamber of Commerce and 1066 Tourism and Marketing.
