Adur and Worthing councils are sponsoring the ‘start-up business’ category this year, and cabinet members for regeneration Pat Beresford and Bryan Turner are urging all businesses in the area to take-part.

Mr Beresford, of Adur District Council, said: “For us, it is a natural thing to be involved with.

“Companies of all sizes are doing marvellous work in Adur and Worthing and we want to give them the recognition they deserve.”

Both the councillors will sit on the judging panel for this year’s awards, and it is a prospect that Mr Beresford is relishing.

He said: “I’m excited to be on the judging panel in my first year as cabinet member for regeneration.

“There’s nothing financial in it for us, it’s just about saying well done to all the businesses.

“It’s our job as a council to give our local businesses recognition.”

Worthing cabinet member Bryan Turner said the awards were ‘Worthing and Adur’s biggest businesses event’.

He said: “We want to celebrate business which are large, small, new or established. Anyone entering this year is sure to get some good exposure and we would like to see as many local businesses as possible involved.”

One of the council’s key corporate priorities this year is to encourage business growth.
