Residents' association has Bank Holiday fun despite weather

THROUGH prudent forward-planning, an enterprising residents' group was able to defy the Easter weather and go ahead with its plans.

The former Sheila Child Close and Mepham Terrace Residents' Association has re-badged itself with the snappier acronym ROSE, thanks to a competition to come up with a new name.

The competition was won by Rachael Dixon.

ROSE's Good Friday Easter Egg Hunt in Barrack Hall Park was the first social occasion for the residents under their new title.

Though a bitingly-cold wind blew across the hill-top park, 13 youngsters and nine adults had Bank Holiday fun, thanks to three competitions.

Some 40 Easter eggs had been hidden.

There was a straightforward hunt for the under-fives, won by Connor Hudson

But the five-13 age group had a six-question puzzle to answer, won by Ebony Hampton.

The over-13 to adult class had ten questions.

The next question was answered by the weather.

The plan had been to stage a barbecue back at the close. But as rain began to fall at the end of the Easter egg hunt, chairman Gwen Potter and her committee put Plan B into operation.

Gwen said: "As we were leaving Barrack Hall Park it started to rain to so we went to Bexhill Guide headquarters, where we cooked our sausages and burgers on the oven."
