Residents celebrate after monthsof hard work to get trees planted

T-Day has arrived in Aldwick.

The residents of one of the parish's roads are celebrating the planting of 28 trees.

The planting along the verges of Fernhurst Gardens was carried out by West Sussex County Council's contractors. It marked the end of 18 months of hard work by the road's homeowners.

They celebrated their success with a ceremony with Bognor Regis and Littlehampton MP Nick Gibb.

The campaigners have raised nearly 2,000 needed to pay for the planting costs to ensure their road lives up to its name.

The newly-installed trees include cherry trees, field maples and hawthorns. Leading campaigner and resident Colin Crouch said: 'A lot of people wanted to have more trees. They are beautiful, they are green and they all contribute towards fighting global warming.

'If a road is full of trees, it looks nice for all ages to enjoy. The trees can also be passed on to future generations just as the current ones have been to us.'

The new trees joined about 20 existing specimens which have graced the verges for many years.
