Residents happy with plan meeting verdict

DELIGHTED residents applauded the decision to reject a proposal to demolish a two-storey family home in Grand Avenue and replace it with nine residential apartments at a Worthing Borough Council planning meeting last Wednesday.

The proposal, which consisted of a four-storey building containing six, two-bedroom apartments and three, three-bedroom apartments, situated at the junction of Lansdowne Road and Grand Avenue, was met with heavy opposition.

Speaking at the meeting, Ian Jones, of Lansdowne Road said: “The scale of the development is far too overbearing.

“I moved into this address 18 years ago as I was attracted by the character of the area and the amenities it had to offer.

“I feel this proposal will have an affect on the quality of life for me and my family. I see no positives for this development and therefore request it is refused

“Surely Worthing does not want to follow Hove’s example of Grand Avenue which is soulless and characterless.”

In addition to the apartments, the proposal also included parking space for 14 cars, 10 for residents and four for visitors, and 10 secure spaces for bicycles.
