WORK is underway to resurface the car park at Lancing’s Beach Green.
The car park has been partially closed and is expected to remain so for two to three weeks while the work is carried out.
Lancing Parish Council is hoping to keep some of the area open but said this may not be possible all the time.
The council has warned drivers who park there regularly to be aware of the situation and have an alternative plan in case the car park has to be closed completely.
Chairman of the council’s amenities and environment committee John Hollington said the work would benefit residents and visitors to the village, and was an important part of the Lancing’s regeneration process.
The work is expected to cost around £80,000, set aside form the council’s general budget.
Storms during winter have caused the surface to deteriorate more quickly than usual.
The path leading up to the beach huts will also be resurfaced as part of the works.
Potholes in the car park at Widewater Lagoon will be filled this year, making the car park safe to use.
But the council cannot afford to pay for a full-scale resurfacing until 2015.
