Retiring head teacher recalls fond memories

AFTER seeing countless students “realise their potential”, Davison High School head teacher Della West is calling it a day after 11 successful years.

As reported in the Herald last week, Mrs West, 60, will retire at the end of the academic year.

In her time as head teacher, she has seen the school rated as outstanding by Ofsted inspectors and the all-girls’ school has become, arguably, one of the strongest performing in Worthing.

But the satisfaction to her is not the “pieces of paper”, but seeing each cohort
leave with a strong set of grades.

Mrs West said: “The Ofsted was a very special thing to me and the school, and as a piece of paper it’s an achievement.

“But for me, seeing cohorts of girls going through and achieving, then writing back to you, that’s where I get the sense of achievement.”
