Heavy rain has caused travel disruption across the county prompting a warning from the police.

Sussex Roads Police said on Twitter: “We’re experiencing flooded roads and fallen trees already this morning. Please, please don’t drive into flood water if you can’t be sure how deep it is.”

Gatwick Police confirmed on Twitter that Lowfield Heath Road, between Bonnets Lane and Charlwood Village junctions, is closed in both directions.

The Faygate roundabout on the A264 is also closed, Horsham Police said.

Meanwhile, the A273 London Road at Burgess Hill is blocked both ways due to a fallen tree between Hammonds Ridge Roundabout and The Friars Oak Pub.

According to reports, traffic is coping well.

The incident is affecting traffic between Haywards Heath and Brighton.

Metrobus services 270 and 271 are diverting via Hickstead and Hurstpierpoint.

The following other flooding incidents have been reported:

- Cripplegate Lane in Southwater blocked both ways due to flooding around Southwater Country Park. Traffic is coping well. Diversion: Metrobus 98 service is on diversion

- Reports of flooding on A24 London Road near A283 The Pike (Washington Roundabout). Traffic is coping well. Reportedly affecting traffic between Worthing and Ashington.

- Reports of flooding on A27 Polegate bypass near The Thoroughbred Inn. Traffic is coping well. Reportedly affecting traffic between Polegate and Lewes.

- Flooding on A26 Lewes Road both ways between Little Horsted Church (Little Horsted) and A22 (Little Horsted Roundabout, Uckfield). Affecting traffic between Lewes and Uckfield.

- Worthing Road Picts Hill blocked due to flooding between A24 (Hop Oast Park and The Boars Head pub. Affecting traffic between Southwater and Horsham. Diversion: Metrobus 23 services are on diversion

- B2116 at Plumpton blocked both ways due to flooding near Plumpton College. Affecting traffic between Lewes and Ditchling.
