Don’t forget Jubilympics is fast approaching, and lots of the Jubilee novelty wears and items are available from the Floral Boutique. You can buy bunting, hats, flags, and cardboard crowns for the children, and head boppers all at reasonable prices. These are part of the Summer Events Committee organisation, to make the 4th June a very memorable occasion for all the villagers of all ages.

Oldwood and Battle Surgery’s Patient Participation Group are looking for new members from both Robertsbridge and Battle and any village that is covered by the two surgeries. If you would like to become a member of the group please contact your surgery and speak with the Practise Manager and she will give you the information you need. One of the purposes of the group is to form a link between the surgeries and the community. Recently there has been a patient survey that the group helped with in an advisory capacity, and in conjunction with SECAMB there have been 2 Community Defibrillaors sited in Robertsbridge, with consultations going on for another one in another village. So if you would like to be part of this it will only take an hour of your time once a month, or as much time as you would like to give. Your opinions are very welcome.

Did you know that Robertsbridge has its very own Polar Historian? Michael Smith ahs lived in the village for some time but his thoughts have often been in far away places, both in time and distance. The famous era of Antarctic exploration in the early years of the last century is his great enthusiasm. On Friday 25th May at the Stables Theatre in The Bourne in Hastings he will be presenting a portrait of a forgotten pioneer of those years. ` Tom Crean- Antartica`s Unsung Hero.` Don’t miss this amazing story of heroism and endurance, illustrated by dramatic photographs, as seen at the Queen’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace, Scott Polar Research Institute and at many other prestigious venues. Robertsbridge Bonfire Society held another very successful Sunday Luncheon for 46 older members of the village last weekend. This is the 14th year of the lunch and is one of the groups that benefits from part of the street collection on Bonfire Night in November.

This is always held at Robertsbridge Club and many thanks to them for allowing the use of the hall and kitchen for the day. The hall was decorated this year with a Jubilee theme, with red, white and blue balloons, bunting with the Queens’s picture, waving flags, and Union Flag serviettes. The day started with a roast dinner and dessert, wine or soft drinks. Then a Royal Quiz followed, then the local band Lumpy and the Lumpettes entertained with music and laughter. Tea and biscuits at 4pm and a raffle to finish the day. Ending at around 5pm with many happy but tired people. Thanks to all that help to make the day such a success, you know who you all are.

Condolences to the family and friends of Mary Jolley who died last week. Another true village lady that will be sadly missed.

Condolences to the friends of Alan from the Bike Shop, and his family in Ireland. Such a shock to everyone because is was so unexpected.

Football: Last Saturday Robertsbridge United F.C. held their Presentation Night and the following awards were presented:- Top Goal Scorer : 1st team Guy Ballard – 2nd team Wayne Mewett; Man of the Match : 1st team Phil Green – 2nd team Mark Lee; Players Player : 1st team Chris Phillips – 2nd team Mark Lee; Managers Player : 1st team Luke Williams – 2nd team David Neill; Young Player : Dan Goodsell.

Saturday 16th June 2012 we are holding a ‘Prize Bingo’ at Robertsbridge Club 8p.m.

Stoolball: The Mixed team played at Ashburnham on Tuesday and although the weather was fine the pitch was very sodden. The hosts batted first and were in trouble at 25-2 after a run-out and a catch by Melinda Mackay off of Richard Ahsam [1-10] bowling and their third wicket went down with another run-out on 39-3 but a fourth wicket partnership of 57 saw the hosts finish on 118-5 with the other wickets being taken by Phil Green [1-21] and Melinda [1-22] while Di Kitson and Phil took catches. In reply we struggled with only Richard Ahsam [14] and Ben Moss [18] reaching double figures as we finished all out for 77. On Sunday [20th] we hosts our Ladies Tournament at the Cricket Ground from 10.30a.m. while the Ladies team are away at Catsfield on Tuesday 22nd and the Mixed team are away to Staplecross on Thursday 24th with both matches starting at 6.45p.m.

Darts: The next ‘Open Pairs Darts’ is at Robertsbridge Club on Sunday 3rd June 2012. This is becoming very popular and highly entertaining with registration at 7.30p.m. and entry fee of just £1 per person.
