Role change for Mario

A “combination of filming commitments and anxiety issues” prompted a change in role for The Only Way is Essex Star Mario Falcone at this year’s pantomime at the Pavillion Theatre.

Rumours had been circling this week that Falcone had been suffering from stage fright, and many fans were left disappointed after he missed performances over the weekend.

But Worthing Theatres press officer Gemma Nethersole said that although anxiety issues were an issue early on, the decision to change Falcone’s role from witch’s henchman to the Wizard of Oz was primarily taken because TOWIE filming commitments would limit his rehearsal and performance availability.

She said: “There were some anxiety issues early on but from our point of view the filming would have made it unfair on the audience to keep him in that role.”

The issue only became apparent two to three weeks ago, when Falcone was unable to fulfil the full rehearsal schedule.

His new role is largely filmed, with his appearance limited to several minutes.
