Construction work on the long-awaited skate park began around six weeks ago.

It has already proven popular, with dozens bringing their bikes, scooters, skateboards and rollerskates to check out the slopes.

Gloria Eveleigh, chairman of Lancing Parish Council, said: “Lancing kids and young adults could not wait to get on the skatepark to practice and show off their skills.

“They’ve been patiently waiting for and looking forward to its completion and now it is here.”

Originally the idea of two teens from Lancing, Jazz Hardy and Charlie Harford, the proposal was taken forward by Lancing Parish Council and planning permission was granted in January last year.

It was funded with money paid to Adur District Council by Brighton and Hove Albion for community use, with a contribution from Lancing Parish Council.

“This is truly a partnership project,” Mrs Eveleigh said.

All are invited to the official opening of the skatepark on Saturday, July 22, from 1.30pm.
