A Westergate walker is set to reach London as his marathon trek nears its end.

He was todaysetting out from Great Canney in Essex to reach Bradwell Waterside on the 318th day of his epic charity fundraiser. He wrote last Saturday: "My legs are at last beginning to complain a little and the soles of my feet get sore. I am going to have to coax these power transmission units over the remaining 350 miles.

"The 12 miles today in some light rain was uncomfortable."

Mr Snook (72) is due to complete his journey in Bognor Regis on December 12. He set off from the seafront on January 1 to conquer the English, Welsh and Scottish coasts on foot.

As a keen walker, he wanted to undertake the ambitious journey to raise money for the Climb charity. He has so far raised 16,932 to help its work fighting metabolic disease in children through research, awareness and fundraising support.
