Rowlands road betting shop targeted by gunmen

GUNMEN stormed a Worthing betting shop and stole cash from the safe on Monday (March 9).

The armed robbery at Ladbrokes, in Rowlands Road, is the second armed robbery in the space of three days, after Betfred in Findon Valley was targeted on Friday.

Police have not confirmed whether they are linking the two incidents.

Two men, each armed with a handgun, demanded cash from the staff member in the latest robbery at 6.40pm.

One of the men stole about £170 cash from the safe. No one was hurt and the shop was empty at the time. The first man was wearing a light grey hood and scarf over his face, a black jacket, dark trousers and white trainers and the other man was wearing a black jacket with the hood up.

Detective Constable Jane Mills said: “We are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Please contact police if you saw these men or anyone acting suspiciously in the area.”
