Rustington garden and allotment winners

Short-listed entries in the gardens competition were judged by Andy Cooper, chairman of Arun District Council, Sarah Hill from East Preston and Kingston Horticultural Society, Alan Humphrey from Littlehampton Allotments Leisure and Gardens Association, and Mr Michael Harwood from Ferring Nurseries.

Winners were:-

Class 1, window boxes, balconies and patio tubs (residential), 9 Goodwood Close, runner-up 6 Tennyson Avenue.

Class 2, window boxes, balconies and patio tubs (commercial), The Lamb public house, runner-up The Windmill Inn.

Class 3, front gardens (residential), 24 Evelyn Avenue, runner-up 25 Dingley Road.

Class 4, front gardens (commercial), Princess Marina House and Rustington House (Hargreaves), joint winners.

Class 5, schools’ competition, Georgian Gardens Community Primary School, runner-up Summerlea Community Primary School.

Class 6, community gardens, The Hidden Twitten (rear of Herne Gardens and Orchard Gardens garage compound, runner-up Rustington Methodist Church.

The Rustington allotments competition was judged by members of the council’s allotments committee.

Winners were:-

Una Maywood Cup for overall winner, Plot Number 11A Penfold Lane, James Newman.

Eddie Leonard Cup for site winner at Penfold Lane, Plot Number 11A, James Newman.

Fred Lee Cup for site winner at Conbar Avenue, Plot Number 27, James and Christine Donovan.

Eric Ilett Cup for site winner at Worthing Road, Plot Number 8, Gary Frostick, and Plot Number 9, Barry Cooper, joint winners.

The Cliff Pryor Cup was awarded to Michael and Wendy Minton in recognition of his ‘unceasing compassion and general support for other plot holders, particularly during periods of indisposition’.

The Owen Electrical Best Newcomer Trophy was awarded to Svetlana Robson for Plot Number 24 Conbar Avenue.

The judges also awarded Certificates of Commendation to selected plots on each site.
