Sail away at charity fun day

RHSC Commodore, Caroline Wylson says the weather was perfect for the event with sun shining and a gentle Southerly breeze at The Point, Rye Harbour. “Dinghies were rigged and ready to go giving those wanting to have a go at sailing the opportunity of a taster sail,” she said. “One couple said even though it got a bit misty out to sea they still loved it and then asked to join the club!”

The afternoon rocked to the sound of sea shanties and more from The Rye Bay Crew Band. The BBQ was a great success and a 25’ bouncy slide kept younger visitors happy whilst others were attracted to various Arts and Craft stalls. Caroline added: “We have been awarded £75,000 from Sport England to help build a new shower block with facilities accessible to all. We need to raise more money before we can start the project; the FUNday raised £916.35. RHSC’S new charity Sailability is being set up to get people with disabilities out on the water but without the shower block we will not be able to be the truly inclusive sailing club that is part of our vision for the future. It’s great to see so many people have a go at sailing, enjoying the experience. Thank you to everyone who came to the Fiesta to make it such a successful event and to Active Sussex, Community Games who supported us with a grant to help fund the day.”
