Save roof campaign

A NEW fund-raising campaign has been launched to save the roof of St Michael and All Angels Church in South Street, Lancing.

The church needs to raise 30,000 over the next four years to pay for repair work to its 80-year-old roof.

A fund-raising beetle drive, followed by tea and a songs of praise service is being held at the church on Sunday, January 30. The beetle drive starts at 3pm, with tickets priced at 3 for adults and 1.50 for children. The service starts at 6.30pm.

Father Barry Carter said: "The renewal of the church roof is the first real test of the parish's fund-raising abilities since the completion of the church in 1959.

"Obviously, we are regularly having to fund-raise to supplement our normal income but finding the sum needed for the roof will be a real challenge for us.

"I am very pleased that since we started fund-raising in August last year, we have already made the first 1,000 from a book sale, concert and a bequest from a past member of the church.

"We have lots of plans for fund-raising activities over the next year in which everyone can become involved.

"It would be great to get some community support to help us in our activities."
