School goes Fairtrade

BEXHILL High is taking an active role in Fairtrade Fortnight which runs from February 28 - March 13.

Members of the local Fairtrade committee will be coming into the school to give information about this year’s campaign and to ask students to be part of the world-breaking Fairtrade flag bunting attempt.

The school’s Fairtrade co-ordinator Vicki Clare will be hosting stalls in the Heartspace for both of the weeks.

Most people are now familiar with the Fairtrade mark on food items but this year the focus is on Fairtrade cotton and the need to support cotton farmers who often find their products lose out to the lower quality, large corporate brands of cotton clothing.

Across the UK schools, churches, Fairtrade groups and individuals will be putting together Fairtrade cotton bunting pieces (which can be painted, embroidered etc) into long lines of bunting hopefully to break the world record for its length.

Bexhill High has been asked to be part of this and it is hoped students will join in during the fortnight. There will also be invitations to other events, competitions and a presentation to the hardworking catering team at Bexhill High for their work towards the school being granted Fairtrade School status.
