School is recognised for sports

DURRINGTON High School is to be recognised for its commitment to PE and school sports.

The school, in The Boulevard, will become a Youth Sport Trust Gold Partner School, which will enable it to receive additional training and development opportunities and get involved in national education and sport initiatives.

Tom Pickford, head of physical education said: “We are delighted to have achieved the YST gold award. It is reflective of the hard work and commitment that the PE staff and students at Durrington are putting in day in and day out.

“We aim to ensure that all students enjoy their experiences within PE and try to offer a wide range of activities that will enthuse and engage.”

Head teacher Sue Marooney was thrilled by the YST recognition.

She said: “There are a whole range of educational, health and wellbeing benefits from delivering high-quality PE and school sport and we see on a regular basis that when sport is delivered well it can transform the lives of a whole range of pupils.”
