Scope fun day in Durrington proves a big success

A FUN day to raise money for charity, Scope, was a big success last Saturday in Durrington. It was the first event to take place at the Durrington day centre since it opened last year.

Lots of activities were set up including guess the age of the tortoise, face painting, a barbecue, children’s games and a raffle.

A community choir also performed, as did Daniel Gilmour, a volunteer who plays African drums.

Pauline Fox, Chief executive officer of the Worthing branch of Scope said: “It was a landmark for us as the Durrington site is quite new territory.

“Lots of people came throughout the time the event was held.”

The fun day raised £1,231 for Scope. The money will go towards refurbishing the sensory room at the charity’s Fitzalan Howard Day Centre.

The room provides somewhere for disabled people to relax but is in need of an update.

Worthing Town Ladies Footbal Club – whose shirts are sponsored by Scope – lent their support to the event by baking the majority of cakes on the cake stall as well as selling them.

Mrs Fox said: “It’s really beneficial if people volunteer to help us.”
