Seaford golf course marshall found dead at home

An 82-year-old man from Seaford took his own life last September, an inquest heard.

Ivor Smith was found dead by his partner in the garage at their home on Arundel Road on September 22 2020.

An inquest at Eastbourne Town Hall on Thursday (February 4), heard that Mr Smith, a retired golf course marshall, had a history of health issues including diabetes, prostate cancer and bronchitis.

Mr Smith also suffered with depression and was taking various forms of medications, according to his GP Dr Sarah Steward.

Mr Smith’s body was found in the garage by his partner, Ida Staples, when she returned from a day visiting her daughter in Kent.

East Sussex coroner Alan Craze ruled that Mr Smith took his own life.
