THE A259 Brighton Road had to be closed for several hours following an accident at Lancing.
It happened at around 3pm on Saturday (January 15) on the westbound side of the road, opposite the junction for Bessborough Terrace.
Firefighters said the car crashed through some metal barriers and ended up 6ft down a grassy embankment. When they arrived, the driver was drifting in and out of consciousness and the roof of the car had to be cut off to free him.
He was taken to Worthing Hospital for treatment, and the road remained closed for several hours while police investigated.
