SEAGULLS PARTY TO FIGHT FIRST ELECTION

The Seagulls Party is to fight a by-election for a seat on Lewes District Council.

It has announced this morning (July 25) it will contest the Ringmer and Ouse Valley by-election on August 17.

Its candidate will be Ed Bassford.

The Seagulls Party was launched on June 5 with the aim to 'promote more effective community involvement in the decisions that affect people's quality of life. By ensuring honesty, openness, accountability and engagement, the Party are committed to bringing a fresh approach to local politics'.

It was launched in the wake of the High Court appeal by Lewes District Council against Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott's decision to allow the Albion to build a soccer stadium at Falmer.

The Liberal Democrat candidate for the ward - also announced this morning - will be Peter Gardiner.
