‘Secret life of snot’ among quirky educational talks

A WHISTLE-stop tour of the nose and other quirky talks were on offer at a science fair event for students across Adur and Worthing at Shoreham Airport.

Over 200 gathered for the Big Bang event on November 11, getting involved with a range of science-related talks and tasks.

One such talk focused on the concepts of barrier immunology and infection, in a talk entitled ‘The Secret Life of Snot,’ provided by the British Society for Immunology.

Event organiser Maxine Green, of Northbrook College, said: “The Big Bang is a fun and engaging way to bring science, technology, engineering and maths 
to life.

“There was a wide range of related activities for the students to engage in and put into context what they learn in school and the range of employment opportunities available locally.”

“Northbrook College works closely with local schools and employers, and shares a responsibility to ensure that young people understand the skills they need to support the local economy for the future.”

The Big Bang event was part of the nationwide Big Bang programme.

The main celebration event for the south east will take place at the South of England Centre, in Haywards Heath, on June 30 next year.
