The day finished with the whole school singing the national anthem in the school hall, following the presentation of prizes for the Royal Art competition.

We were so lucky that the sun decided to shine on us on Saturday for the jubilee fayre. 1066 Pipes and drums started the afternoon off playing to everyone assembled on and around the village green. There was plenty of stalls and games for everyone to enjoy and it was so nice to see so many people meeting up with friends and neighbours having a chat and enjoying the sunshine. Dave Brabants, sited in the Queens Head garden, did a fine job with providing music in between the live performances making the afternoon go with a swing. Thanks must be given though to all the volunteers who gave so freely of their time and patience to make the day possible with a special mention for Bob Harris and Ralph Dellow who worked so hard to pull the whole event together providing this special day for the village. An added bonus is that all profit raised from the day will benefit St Michaels hospice and village charities.

I think everyone who came along to the Jubilee family picnic on the Sports field last Monday enjoyed the afternoon meeting up with other villagers, listening to the music and playing games. It was a bit dicey with the weather earlier in the day but then this is England and we carried on regardless, and just as well as the day brightened up, much to the relief of the organisers. Thanks to Pestalozzi students who helped with the setting up in the morning. The main Thank you though is to Sedlescombe Green WI for their involvement in creating the day for the village and providing refreshments throughout the afternoon especially to Margaret Hudson, Sylvia Beaney and Rosemary Farley.

If you missed visiting the studios of Sedlescombe Artists’ Mark Fisher and Tony Wynne last weekend they are open again this Friday June 8 through to Monday June 11 from 10am to 5pm as they have their Open studio event at the Den, Meadow Lane, Sedlescombe. You are welcome to visit on any or all of the four days to view their work. Mark using the medium of drawing and painting whilst Tony specialises in stained and fused glass. Sedlescombe Players presents ‘The Amorous Ambassador’ an American Farce by Michael Parker. In Sedlescombe Village Hall 7.30pm on Wednesday June 20 and Thursday June 21 these no supper nights performances are priced £ 9 whereas Friday and Saturday performances with supper are priced at £14 however these two evenings are sold out with returns only.

Sedlescombe C.E Primary School have opened their heated outside swimming pool to the public. They are open with a lifeguard in attendance every Tuesday evening from 7-8 pm at a price of £3 per adult. This is open to all the public and hope that local residents come along and enjoy an evening swim.

Road Safety Week. The local police held a road safety week from April 30 to May 4 and it was regarded as a very successful week. The school was fully involved putting out markers near the school danger spots to control parking. Speed cameras were used from 6.00am and there were a number of people stopped some received fines and some cautions. There were a number of outcomes from this initiative , the children were made more aware, parking near the school has improved and speeding through the Village has seen a decrease. Thanks to Demi and the East Sussex police and to our local school children who gave so much support.

The police have kindly granted the Sedlescombe Youth Group £240 for equipment which will be used at the youth club. A presentation with photographs will take place on Friday June 8 on the Village Green

A very pleasant day out was enjoyed by twenty members of the Sedlescombe Friendship Club recently. A three hour trip was arranged on the ‘Kentish Lady’ which floated very gently down the Medway from Maidstone to Teston. A lovely cruise, good food , very nice weather and good company.

Have you ordered your tickets for the Sedlescombe & District Garden Society Jubilee Barbecue on Saturday June 16 2012 from 12.00 noon at Chris Hone’s house in Marley Lane, Battle? All Members of the Garden Society and their guests are welcome. The tickets which are £7.50 each must be purchased in advance and the closing date for this is Monday June 11. There will be a limited number of chairs so if you could bring a folding garden chair or a rug it would be much appreciated. Do come and enjoy yourself, it promises to be a fun afternoon.
