Seven hundred turn out for protest march

A HURSTPIERPOINT schoolboy led a march on Sunday to stop 1,500 homes being built in and near his village.

Callum McHale, of Hassocks Road, Hurstpierpoint, near Hassocks, rallied more than 700 people at the protest on Sunday afternoon.

The 12-year-old is one of thousands of local residents who oppose plans by Mid Sussex District Council to develop the land north of Hurstpierpoint and west of Burgess Hill.

The protest was attended by Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert and former footballer Jimmy Hill, who lives in Hurstpierpoint.

Mid Sussex District Council drew up the plans for the site as part of the Government's strategy to build 15,000 by 2026 but no developer is yet involved in building on the land.
