Shop worker injured after Sompting armed robbery

STAFF at the One Stop shop in Cokeham Road, Sompting, were threatened at knife-point by an armed robber.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward if they were in the area at around 7.40pm yesterday (Tuesday, January 4) and may have seen something.

The suspect was dressed all in black and was wearing a balaclava.

Two staff handed money from the till and the robber escaped on foot in an easterly direction.

One of the shop workers received a small cut to his arm when he handed over the cash.

Detective Inspector Trevor Bates, of Worthing and Adur CID, said: “The incident was over very quickly and thankfully no-one was seriously injured.

“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed a man, or men, acting suspiciously in the area before the incident or anyone who saw the man making his escape.”
