Shopkeeper backs down over 24-hour booze

A SHOPKEEPER has reached a compromise with police over a bid to sell alcohol round the clock.

The boss of Garrett’s Newsagent, in Queen’s Parade, Lancing, Jatinder Pal Singh, struck a deal with police, agreeing to sell booze only between 8am and 10pm.

This deal meant the council’s licensing committee did not have to step in to adjudicate.

An Adur Council spokesman said: “All new premises licence applications undergo a period of public consultation and, during this period, Sussex Police raised some concerns relating to the application.

“In this case, the applicant agreed to all of the conditions of the licence requested by Sussex Police.

“This included selling alcohol between 8am and 10pm each day.

“As a result, the representation from the police was withdrawn and the amended application was granted.”
